Bachelor of Music in Performance
Students in this degree focus on professional music performance training within the context of a comprehensive liberal arts education.
At the heart of this program of study is a weekly course that includes individual lessons, chamber music coaching, repertoire class, ensemble participation, and frequent performance opportunities. Distinctive to this course is a performance studies seminar that provides Bachelor of Music students opportunites to discuss and explore areas of interest unique to music performance, including analytical listening skills, professional auditions, working with management, performance anxiety, networking, and studio management.
Students learn to integrate material from core courses in music theory, history, and conducting into daily practice and score preparation.
This degree prepares students for culminating performances in junior and senior recitals. Most students in this program will pursue graduate study. Many will go on to professional careers as vocal or instrumental performers, free-lance musicians, conductors, or professors in the field of higher education. Others will pursue careers in arts related careers such as arts administration.
