Service-Learning Courses
Service-learning courses are courses that link classroom theory with hands-on experiences on behalf of a worthwhile cause. By connecting volunteer work to academic study, the courses let students explore the roots of social problems and think critically about both what is being done to resolve them and what might be done. The courses carry full academic credit.
Projects across the curriculum, around the globe
Students in an education class tutor children at a Hispanic community organization. Music students teach music to kids in a Head Start program. A political science class looks at the impact of small loans in stimulating the economy in developing countries. Service-learning opportunities across the curriculum give students greater insight into some of today's most pressing social problems than coursework alone would provide.
