Audition Requirements for Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion

Requirements for all applicants
(see below for requirements for specific degree programs).

• Complete a brief written test of basic music theory skills.
• Demonstrate aural skills by vocally matching pitches, singing simple intervals, identifying major and minor chords, and sight singing a simple song.
• Send copies of your music three weeks prior to the audition date.
  

Bachelor of Music in Performance

• Perform major and scales, 2 or more octaves, ascending and descending. 
• Perform three compositions which demonstrate contrasting styles.   
• Sight read a short piece.
• Percussionists will perform on keyboard percussion, timpani, and snare drum.

Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Music Minor

• Perform major scales through four flats and sharps, 2 or more octaves, ascending and descending.
• Perform two compositions or movements which demonstrate contrasting styles.   
• Sight read a short piece.
• Percussionists will perform on keyboard percussion, timpani, and snare drum.
