Writing Center
| Located on the ground floor of Breidenbaugh Hall, the Writing Center is a place where students can bring their writing for review and discussion with peer tutors and English professors. Students can drop in anytime during regular hours to work on individual assignments, group projects, or improvement of writing skills in general. Although the Writing Center is a drop-in facility, students are encouraged to form a working relationship with a single tutor and to return often to work on their writing. The Writing Center staff encourages students to take responsibility for their own written work. To this end, the Center does not provide editing, proofreading, or ghostwriting services. The staff works with students and their assignments individually, however, assessing each writer's particular needs. Students may receive help with organizational or stylistic problems, or may work with a tutor to resolve specific grammatical errors that recur in their papers. In each case, the writer will be provided with the necessary tools to make his or her own revisions. At the Center, we stress a process approach to writing, involving steps and stages. These steps including prewriting activities like brainstorming, list making, and discovery drafts; the writing iteself (with multiple drafts); and revision and editing. If you would like to take advantage of the Writing Center, simply drop in during the scheduled hours of operation listed on this site. |
